MMA is a hybrid contact sport that combines different martial arts styles and hand-to-hand combat techniques together. As a result, practitioners must be well skilled in stand-up striking and grappling techniques.
Like in any other martial art, the safety of the participants is of the utmost importance in this type of activity. This is why the introduction of rules and regulations has helped ensure the safety of participants and contributed to the popularity of the sport. The MMA program at our School offers a safe and challenging activity for teens, men and women.
MMA came into being in the early 1990’s with the introduction of the Ultimate Fighting Challenge (UFC). Fighters with different styles and backgrounds were pitted against each other in a steel fence cage. Being an amazing and spectacular sport, MMA caught the public's attention and became very popular, very quickly.
As MMA matured, so did events and rules. The main concern has always been to ensure the safety of all competitors.Jiu-Jitsu fighters well versed in grappling techniques left a significant impression. No longer were bigger fighters able to dominate the small ones.
