Top-Notch Martial Arts
Therien Martial Arts & Fitness Centre in North Dundas is one of many Therien Martial Arts schools across Eastern Ontario and a member of the World Kobudo Federation. Led by 8th degree black belt Kyoshi Norm Beauchamp, the school has been operating in the community since 1993 and has since produced nearly 50 black belts, as well as a number of successful amateur kickboxers.
Our dojo offers Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Fitness and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for all ages. Part of the world-renowned Therien Jiu-Jitsu family of schools, our programs have been developed by martial arts legends, including Hanshi John Therien (9th degree black belt in jiu-jitsu) and Jean-Yves Theriault (23-time world kickboxing champion).
We pride ourselves on delivering classes that are fun and energetic, while maintaining traditional martial arts values such as respect, discipline and confidence.

Kyoshi Norm Beauchamp
Jiu-Jitsu, BJJ, Kickboxing
Kyoshi Norm Beauchamp is an 8th degree black belt in Therien Jiu-Jitsu, gold certified kickboxing instructor, blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a member of the Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fame. He first opened Therien Martial Arts & Fitness Centre in North Dundas in 1993 and remains the dojo’s chief instructor.
Kyoshi Norm’s martial arts career began in the 1970s under the instruction of John Therien. Since then, he has trained several high caliber black belts, competed in tournaments around the world (including winning a world championship in Sport Jiu-Jitsu), and has earned a reputation as a world-class martial arts instructor.
Renshi Carol Buma-Beauchamp
Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Fitness
Renshi Carol is a 5th degree black belt in jiu-jitsu, gold certified kickboxing instructor and a certified personal trainer. As a co-owner of Therien Martial Arts & Fitness Centre, she not only teaches all classes, but is responsible for the overall management of the dojo.
Having developed a number of black belts and kickboxers, Renshi Carol has earned a reputation as both a strong jiu-jitsu practitioner and encouraging fitness instructor. She is well known in both the community and the martial arts world for her high energy classes, enthusiasm and intensity.
Renshi Daniel Gasser
Jiu-Jitsu, BJJ, Kickboxing
Renshi Daniel is a 5th degree black belt in jiu-jitsu, purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a gold certified kickboxing instructor. He has been training for over 25 years. He teaches all levels of jiu-jitsu, is the head BJJ coach at the North Dundas dojo, and is an occasional kickboxing instructor.
Renshi Daniel started training jiu-jitsu as a kid under the instruction of Kyoshi Norm. In that time, he has competed in many areas of martial arts, including amateur kickboxing, trained with masters around the world and led a number of students to their goal of black belt.
Sensei Leslie Johnson
Sensei Leslie Johnson is a gold certified kickboxing instructor and a black belt in the Essentials Jiu-Jitsu program. She has been part of the dojo for nearly 15 years and delivers unique classes with a positive attitude every time every time she teaches, while guaranteeing a challenging physical workout.
Sensei Greg Nilsson
Sensei Greg is 3rd degree Black Belt in Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu as well as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt under Professor Ely Camejo.He has been teaching martial arts for 28 years, opening his first boxing club in 1994 in Camrose Alberta. His experience ranges from starting Boxing programs including for the Edmonton YMCA which are still in operation today, to teaching Can-Ryu and BJJ since 2014. He is active in supporting the sport of BJJ in refereeing, competing and coaching.
Sensei Greg’s goal is to help each student reach their goals whatever those may be. Whether they are to get in better shape, compete in BJJ, learn to defend yourself, improve coordination or learn new ways to improve stress management. He firmly believes that martials arts has a lot more to offer then just learning how to punch or throw someone, but is a way of challenging yourself and growing a little each day to improve your health and overall wellbeing.
